Hooking up to a motor means you can have it spin in both directions; and with PWM input, you can use your Arduino to make them spin at any speed. Datasjeet Rxx series is pin compatible with the linear 78 series regulators. There are also some PICs with a HV in the part number that include an internal shunt regulator so only need a single resistor to run off a higher supply voltage than the normal 5V.

It requires a 6V to 15V power supply to power the motor and has an onboard 5V voltage regulator which can power the I2C bus and the Arduino selectable by jumper. Sounds better than a to power a battery monitor ie.
An h-bridge is basically a specific setup of transistors 7805a allow you to switch direction of current. It doesn’t have to be a linear regulator. These are rather too much I think for your low current application because the chip alone draws several mA, but I’ve used the CS with good success.
